Just Beachy

Updated: Jul 3, 2023

Most likely, if you’re coming to visit San Diego or you live here, you like the beach. Whether that means walking along the boardwalk, laying out in the sun, or getting in the ocean - our different beaches are sure to offer what you’re looking for!

  • La Jolla Cove - This beach is known for its clear water and abundant marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. The beach is also surrounded by picturesque cliffs and has nearby restaurants and shopping. On most days, you can see the sea lions laying out in the sun on the rocks!

  • La Jolla Shores - This is one of the more ‘basic’ beaches in my opinion, but actually one of my favorites. On one side is the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier and on the other end is majestic homes atop the cliffs. I like this beach for laying out, reading a book, and just generally relaxing.

  • Windansea - This is also in La Jolla, south of the cove. This beach is absolutely beautiful and a popular spot for sunsets!

  • Blacks Beach - IYKYK. Black’s beach is on the other side of La Jolla Shores and is known to be one of the largest nude beaches in the US! It is secluded below a row of bluffs and you can see the paragliders flying around above. There are a few trails that lead to this beach but it is a bit of a trek!

  • Coronado Beach - Another one of my favorites because I grew up coming here when my grandparents lived on Coronado Island. This beach is well known for the iconic Hotel Del Coronado which is full of shops and restaurants.

  • Mission Beach - This beach has a boardwalk full of shops, restaurants, and an amusement park. It’s popular for volleyball, swimming, and surfing. They also have firepits for bonfires! I definitely recommend this beach for families or anyone who wants to be able to easily grab a snack or drink close to the sand.

  • Del Mar Beach - A major plus of this beach is that it’s dog friendly! I don’t have a dog, but I do enjoy going there to walk, and seeing the pups! It is close to the village of Del Mar which has shopping and dining available.

  • Pacific Beach - Pacific beach also has a boardwalk (connects all the way through Mission Beach) and is known for it’s restaurants, shops, and bars. I would consider this to be more of a party beach and in close proximity to lots of fun spots!

  • Ocean Beach - OB gives the classic laid back, bohemian SoCal vibe. The pier extends half a mile into the ocean (one of the longest in So Cal) and there is a dog beach as well. Just south of OB is Sunset Cliffs. You can venture down to the sand here, although I never have. I prefer to walk the trail along the bluffs and take in the magical views!

Other beaches to consider - Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad. These are all located in North County.

Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with any of these beaches. They’re all beautiful and have their own unique vibe.
